This is among the better equipped boat launches on any of the rivers in the area. It puts the Ocoee, Hiwassee, and upper chattahoochee to shame in comparison. The parking is mostly shaded and the gorge seems to be about 10-15 degrees cooler than the low country so I don't have to worry as much about opening an oven door when I get in my car. The actual put in is protected and still water for about 15 yards but there is a hard eddyline when you enter the flow followed almost immediately by a class II+ rapid so it's a quick start. Read moreThis launch site is for commercial rafting. I frequently get shuttle rides from the Nantahala Outdoor Center and this is where they take you to put in. If you're a rafting customer or renting a ducky, they will bring you here to start your trip. This is just a little upstream of the Pattons Run public put in and includes one more little class 2 rapid on the way to Pattons. There are porta potties here and no changing area.
