I'm giving it a 4 star solely because of the amount of vandalism. You can clearly see many of the original glyphs, but I don't know if "I ❤️ you 4E Ashley" counts.

If you're coming from Rock Springs just follow the signs. Google Maps isn't wrong, it just doesn't know the difference between well maintained dirt roads and dirt roads that are still technically "roads", but are effectively just paths.

As of early August 2025 you should be able to get up there with most any vehicle (if you follow the signs), but I don't know if that's always true.

For what it's worth, these dirt roads were in better condition than many of the paved highways in Montana. Just take it easy and turn around if you feel uncomfortable. All but the last ~2 miles are standard highway width, so turning around will be easy, and there was no traffic. The last bit was also in good condition, but down to one lane, so you might have to pick where you meet oncoming traffic. Luckily, you can see them coming...

It is a bit off the beaten path, but well worth the stop. Many reviews recommend a 4x4, but I would say they didn’t grow up in the country driving dirt/gravel roads. Just use a little common sense and avoid going during bad weather or just after a major storm.

It’s a brisk hike from the parking lot to the petroglyphs and a water bottle maybe a good idea too. I was able to push a wheelchair there but there are two pinch points where I had to have her walk and sadly my mother-in-law couldn’t make it up the last bit of the way to see the glyphs. Still, she liked the fresh air and was able to make it 90% of the way there.

Please be sure to take care of the place. There are clear signs of people carving and...

Beautiful site I’ve been working with an archaeologist who studies petroglyphs he has a brother also an archaeologist in Egypt they have been comparing petroglyphs. some of the petroglyphs at this location are identical two ones in Egypt and SW Arizona. Not only the petroglyphs but the position of adjacent identical petroglyphs. My wife and I measured and photographed petroglyphs for comparison to the Egyptian petroglyphs they match perfectly makes you wonder at times. We do a lot of off-road trails so the road was easy by our standards. Don’t miss the museum in Rock Springs. It’s...

Very awesome site to go see! I would recommend 4 wheel drive and making sure it hasn't rained. Lol nothing but dirt roads, you eventually go out of service, just keep going until you see signs for the petroglyphs. As a historical landmark, I wish they had something to read on a sign before you enter... they do have an outhouse which is nice and trash dumpster to keep people from littering. Not a lot of people either when I went so that was nice also. If you want to get the most out of this trip def pack a lunch and bring a good book to read for a little bit ! It is a beautiful view ❤.

It’s difficult to understate how cool this site is — or how sad it is that it’s been defaced. I certainly hope that the carvings, as they originally were, are catalogued somewhere. Whoever is responsible for this place needs to step it up. A sign and the honor system won’t stop the type of person who ruins things. The Shoshone, Arapaho, and Ute people still exist — if the US can’t protect this piece of their history from vandals we should give it back.
