Great trail! Very flat, 170 feet of elevation over 35 Miles, and it is very smooth. The tunnels are well marked with reflectors, I wish more tunnels on trails we left unlit. The section of gravel road is unpleasant a little bit north of the kennerdell tunnel. Road bikes may need to walk it, but it is short. There are root heaves in the pavement a few miles outside of Emlenton that will slow you down, but it's not horrible.

We entered the Allegheny trail a little bit lower, down at the tunnel. The walk along the river is gorgeous, and we saw interesting plants and birds along the way. It looks like a great spot to canoe as well.

This is about the paved section , From Franklin to where the bridge is out. I ride this sectisection as many as 3 tunes a week. This is an excellent part of the trail. Lots of wildlife, watch for black snakes sunning themselves. Watch for dog shit. Depending when you go it can be very busy. If the weather is nice, OMG))) Walkers do not know or pay attention to the rules. Why do dog walkers on the trail think they are exempt from cleaning up...

Two wonderful tunnels. Bring a flashlight or strong headlamp!! There aren't any lights and they curve. The darkness can be disorienting. Beautiful views of the Allegheny River. Tree-lined and shady. Only 1 mile out of Emlenton one feels "we're in the middle of nowhere". Cell reception is sparse. Sunny Slopes trail detour is rough gravel. The trail is starting to show some wear with roots invading and making bumps. Still a...
