We make a point to visit Old Victoria at least once a year—usually for Victoria Days or Log Cabin Day—because there’s just something about this little corner of mining history that keeps calling us back.
Tucked away and definitely off the beaten path (don’t expect cell service or coffee shops), this tiny town is in the slow but steady process of being restored. And that’s part of its charm. The log homes, the handmade details, the stories that still cling to the floorboards—it’s a place that feels like a living memory.
It’s not for folks looking for hustle and bustle, but if you love the quiet unfolding of local history, especially Michigan’s mining past, this place is worth the detour. And just a bit further up the road? Victoria Dam and Falls—another peaceful, picturesque stop that rounds out the visit perfectly.

Once we reached the summit peak we knew we had gone off our anticipated trail and turned around before we got too far out of our way. But in any case it was a beautiful hike and there are gorgeous views along the way as well as a...
Read moreI think the buildings might be in the same place as they were before and that's about as close to original interpretation as the whole place gets. There is some history there but as far as our tour went, I was far from impressed. Two separate groups came and left without even starting a tour because of lack of hospitality and despite the vast amount of inaccurate historical tools and decorations I would have rather paid to give...
