The "Big Tree" is well worth a stop for a look and possibly a picnic. It is located at 1622 12th Street in Lamar, Texas. Sometimes the address is shown as being in Rockport, but it is really in Lamar, an unincorporated town on the north side of the Copano Bay Causeway.
It's hard to say how this tree compares to other big trees in Texas. It certainly isn't the tallest, but it does have a canopy that spreads pretty widely. It's also unclear how old the tree is. You will find widely divergent views about its age on line and on the signs in the area.
That said, it's a magnificent tree to see. I wouldn't drive here from El Paso to see this tree, but if you're passing through the area, it's definitely worth a stop.
Also, if you're passing through the area during winter, there are often some whooping cranes just around the corner, visible in the field immediately west of Lamar Beach Road.

This spot has been on the back of my head, but due to bad weather and timing being bad until today, this gorgeous day and We came to see this place, The Big 🌳 Tree. Was very pretty and the trees that surrounded it they were big too but this one takes the cake for being here close to the water and very hidden its nice. Has small benches just to sit and relax or meditate they're some deers 🦌 so be cautious ⚠️ when driving go speed limit or slower because these suckers just pop out of nowhere. Anyway I recommend this place only if you like nature if you don't like it, then it's not for you. It has a man made tree fence to protect it. But you're still there and can see it. Read moreThe Big Tree is must stop if you are around Lamar. What a peaceful and amazing sight to see and U don't have to be a nature lover to appreciate it's beauty. The grounds around it are well kept by the parks people, there are some benches for you to sit, a nice wooden fence to keep visitors out and a looped path to walk around it and enjoy it's grand beauty. Above all this is a nice quiet place where u can connect with nature and some of it's creatures.
