Great pier, but to call it a fishing pier is a little inappropriate. It really, really doesn't seem like they had anglers in mind, and definitely didn't have anyone who actually fishes consult on the pier. You're like 25+ feet away from the water, more like a Florida pier. People up here do not have or use drop nets. The spot itself is terrible. No structure, all beach, no breakwall..... I get you can't control all of this but it's pretty sad. For a state who's anglers spent 5.5 billion last year generating the states economy, for a lake which is rhe walleye capital in the world, it really isn't ideal for eyes or perch, and it's mostly big cats and drums. Good for a decent cat night but you should be able to get eyes consistently at a pier, and perch in the spring and fall at least. I'm sure you'll get your strays and randoms but this just isn't the environment for the good stuff. Also, they kick everyone out at sundown if you parked there. I take the bus, so lucky me, I got to stay. But everyone else has to leave and park somewhere else and walk back with all their fishing stuff, or just go home. Walleye are night fish. I catch most perch at night. Cats are even night biters! Like I got the whole pier to myself but it's just wild to me to kick all your anglers out at NIGHT. even places that typically close at sundown like Mile long pier now has a gate that allows you out after dark, but not in. So If you're already there fishing you can still leave, but don't have to leave RIGHT then. Also, even if you caught an eye, good luck landing it. Drop nets are a learning curve and a half and though we are getting faster with ours, if you miss the first netting on an eye you'll almost definitely lose it. I saw people using milk crates on paracord to land fish, but nothing more than a few lbs would fit. It's ridiculous.
Idk if the city will even see this, doesn't really matter I guess, but I just needed to rant. I wish so badly they would actually consult real anglers before they...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNo parking!!!! Thereās enough room for maybe 20 cars. They made a beautiful lawn but a short and narrow parking lot! There were lines of cars waiting to find spaces! We tried to turn around and wait and see if something would open up and we gave up! The lawn could be used for parking! If youāre going to build a beautiful new attraction and itās going to be covered through social media all over Cleveland, people are going to come see it. Creating just enough space for the surrounding area wonāt cover it! Two stars because I only got to see the entrance! If the designers want to get a better review, they should take out part of the lawn and add additional parking. Very...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is normally a great location to go and watch the sun sets as well as fish but because it is closed, July 2018, for repairs and not sure how long it will be closed it may not be a good location for a little while. The beach access is still very good for kayakers and paddle boarders to launch and go play on the lake. There's also a great spot to bring your dog and let them play...
