This is a great hike and the area around Split Rock has a lot of vegetation. If you do the loop around Balancing Rock and Sandstone Peak, it will be about 7 miles total. Depending on the direction you come from this is either about 1/3 of the way or 2/3 of the way. There is a picnic bench (not well maintained) where you can stop and relax in some shade.
