I have loved Ashley National Forest, since I was a child (50 years ago). I wish the Forest Service would find the funds to do some forestry maintenance. A great number of trees are infested with a bark beetle and parasitic mistletoe. They need to identify the stricken areas and harvest a large enough clear cut belt around those areas, that it keeps from spreading. Eco freaks have no idea that just leaving the forest in such a state, destroys habitats and eventually the entire forest. Trees need to be harvested and new trees planted when the pests are beaten back. I'm a CONSERVATIONIST NOT an eco-freak. Some of the best conservationists in Utah, are the generational ranchers. They know just how much to graze their live stock so the ground continues to produce abundant vegitation for generations. If any of the idiot eco-warriors had a clue how the earth really functions then I'd be very surprised. Trees need to be pruned or culled to keep the growth healthy, animals need to be culled (hunted, by man or another prediter) to keep their species thriving. I'm pretty sure that no one will read this but if you do, feel free to educate yourself about conservation, life cycles, earth's cycles, seasonal cycles, and flood & drought cycles...

Read moreAbsolutely stunning. Camping in late June we did experience sunny and warm, rain, hail, and woke to a half inch of snow. I would recommend preparing well for all possibilities as the elevation is high and the weather fluctuates a great deal. Location is very close to the Dinosaur National Park and about 20 minutes to a town equipped with dumping and shopping. We had no problem at all finding a site which was large enough for multiple large campers and 4 tents. There are many bathrooms available that were decently kept. Campsites had fire rings but were otherwise very authentic and right with nature. Stream close by was fast this year and we had to keep a close eye o kids but it made for very relaxing nature sounds...
