They say if youāre in Roscoe City Park after dark, when the wind picks up and the mesquites start whispering, you might see himāwhatās left of him, anyway.
Locals call him Tumble Tom. Once a drifter, he got caught in a dust devil so fierce it spun him clean out of his boots. When it stopped, only a tumbleweed rolled out⦠with eyes.
Now he roams the park at twilightādry limbs scratching pavement, denim scraps tangled in twigs, whispering nonsense in a voice like wind through a screen door. Folks whoāve seen him say heās lookinā for his boots. Or maybe just someone else to roll with.
Either way, when the wind kicks up in Roscoe⦠best not stick around...
