Truly a remarkable place to visit, explore and experience.
Just an 8 hour drive from the Bay Area, you have hot springs, massive waterfalls, countless hiking trails, epic scenery, and miles and miles of beautiful roads, this is probably one of my favorite national forests.
My girlfriend and I came here for the weekend and tried to cram as much as we can in one day.
We left our hotel in Roseburg as early as possible to start the adventure - we arrived at the hot springs probably around 7:00am , and it was packed already. Still had fun though.
We then continued to Winston's Falls and hiked the semi-easy trail to get to it. Barely anyone there. It was very nice.
After that, we headed to Diamond Lake - rented a boat and enjoyed the beautiful scenery of mountains surrounding us from every direction.
Lastly, went to Crater Lake and it was a breathtaking sight to see.
Overall, I don't know what I could add or complain about Umpqua National Forest.
There is a ton of things to see and do for your stay. Like I mentioned earlier, there are countless trails, rivers, camping spots, mountains, etc.
Highly recommend coming to Umpqua. Rent a hotel nearby or in Roseburg and set sail...

The ceiling falls in neat hexagonal chunks. There's a treasure trove of driftwood. A rope for making a bundle to carry out would be a good idea. Umpqua Hot Springs are really great, but not quite the party spot now that it's day use only. Still a good place to get naked and take a hot bath in a natural paradise, though, and the clear river is fantastic for cooling and rinsing off. Most of the pools are too cold and slimy, but the second from the top is perfect. There's a surprise if you hike down to the river from the hot springs. This part of Oregon is so alive...
