Anticipating a fulfilling workout experience at a potential new gym, I took on a 30-minute drive filled with anticipation. This particular facility had been on my mind for some time, especially considering the closure of my current home gym. However, upon arriving at the YMCA, I was met with the disappointing fact that day passes were no longer available. Despite the kind offer of a brief tour by the front desk attendant, the quick exploration revealed a lack of essential equipment, notably the absence of a deadlift area and squat racks, with machines densely packed in close proximity making it extremely awkward to work out alone. I sent my daughter with sunscreen and she came home sunburned because she was told she didn’t have time to put it on and didn’t need it anyway. My daughter shared various other stores of the counselor being unkind or unempathetic. I am sure my child was tired and wasn’t perfect, but if you’re a counselor at an overnight camp, isn’t that your job to deal with tired kids and be kind? Kids should not come home feeling like the...
