Good place for fishing, picnic, sightseeing, walking, jogging, running, biking, or even doing some workout routines (we saw some groups doing yoga & pushups in one of the gazebos). This is not a “park” so don’t expect playgrounds for kids. Instead, take them for catch-and-release fishing or just simply walking the trails and enjoying the view of nature. It’s also a good walking trail for your dogs. It’s not a dog park so please make sure to leash your dog. There’s plenty of trashcans and dog waste bags available (for free) throughout the trail route. There’s also adequate number of benches along the route for you to rest during your walks. About 3-4 parking lots are available with maybe 10-15 slots per lot. Restrooms are available at the parking lots. There’s plenty of picnic tables and gazebos — some facing the lake/pond, some besides the parking, and some even have BBQ grills you can use. Take your pick. One round of the big loop is about 1.3 miles. But if you want to see the fishing site, make sure to walk through the inner loop too. Lastly, there are lots of bird poop scattered on the ground in one part of the trail near the parking lot. So...
Read moreI really wish I could say I like this place. While I love the look of the forest preserve; the path around the water, the lovely picnic shelters tucked away, I really hate the mosquitos. I understand that being outside in a wooded area around water means there will be some bugs, but when you have mosquitos descend upon you like a cloud it's really out of control. In fact the last time we were there I was more concerned about breathing then in than getting bit, and I was still very concerned about getting bit! Bug spray doesn't help, it's truly ridiculous. I hope Lake County Forest Preserve District thinks about how best to control the mosquito population because this beautiful preserve is ruined by...
Read moreNippersink Forest Preserve is a fantastic place for a bike ride! The trails are well-maintained and offer beautiful scenery, making it a peaceful escape into nature. I spent a few hours exploring the different paths, and each one offered something unique. The fresh air and quiet surroundings were a welcome break from the city. I didn't encounter any staff during my visit, but the trails were easy to navigate. I'd highly recommend this preserve to anyone looking for a scenic and relaxing bike ride. I can't wait to go back and...
