What a find! We've driven past Rufus Landing on the freeway but never understood how to get a spot. Turns out it's easy! And free!! You just drive in and park! Thanks to rvparky.com for helping us with the courage to check it out. Oh it's quite a great place!
For anything from day fishing, windsurfing, swimming, or overnighting in your tent, car, RV, or motorhome. Stay up to 7 days!
There's 3 separate parking areas. The first is off a paved road with gravel spots. The second (much larger) area is "off-road" and leads to the fantastic beach! We've stayed here a couple times. It wasn't as busy as Google maps made it look. Got a great spot right next to the beach. Incredible! We have not yet explored the 3rd parking area. It looks even more secluded.
The beach off the second parking area has 2 sides. The wavy "river side" with a typical northwest rocky beach and around the end on the far right, there's a much calmer area with an actual sandy beach that kids can swim in and make sandcastles!!
The icing on the cake is: there are restrooms! At the second lot there's two clean handicapped accessible rooms with a toilet, urinal and soap dispenser!
I was very happy relaxing all night and waking up to the beach sunrise. And it didn't cost a...

And don't paddleboard to any of the nearby islands. Forget about it! Untouched piles of...

Free overnight camping allowed til Oct 31, then day use only. We happened to be there Oct 30 π. A few trains thru the night, on the other side of the river. No whistles so they aren't too loud. Could have slept thru them, if I'd been able to fall asleep in the first place. But the highway traffic kept me awake. Was hoping it would quiet down thru the night but it didn't. If you need quiet, you probably won't like this place. But otherwise it was...
