Maydelle Country Wines — Attraction in Rusk

Eccentric and delicious! Greeted by Precious the goat standing on the front porch of a little tool shed turned tasting room, we rustled our sommelier from the bottling room in the old Maydell Train Depot next door. After a tasting of elderberry, blackberry, peach, pear, pineapple, scuppernong, red table, and even a lemon wine, we trekked over to the depot turned bottling room to witness the husband and wife owners of the winery filling and labeling bottles. I even took a spin at filling bottles! They are a local family who has been around for generations. The husband started making wine as a hobby and it flourished. Such a great quirky time and although, as expected no one in our group liked all the wines, we all bought several bottles of our favorites. I have tasted lots of fruity mountain wines like these and these were some of the best...and very inventive! It was my first pineapple wine and first lemon wine. Not a fan, but I bet if you like lemoncello, you will like them.

I have not yet visited the this quaint little place (as I hope to do in the future), but I have tasted the Lime Wine. It is the BEST wine I have EVER tasted! On their website, it states that Texas Spec's stores carry their wines. I stopped by my local Spec's to pick up some of Maydelle's WONDERFUL Lime wine only to find that they are discontinuing carrying this particular flavor. The lady at my store was very nice and checked the system to see if any other store had any Lime wine left. She found the LAST TWO bottles at another store located 40 minutes away. They placed those bottles on hold for me so I could pick them up later in the afternoon. So worth it! I guess if I want some more Lime wine, I'll have to order it online, although I'd rather be able to find it locally in...

Ok so... mixed review here... I would have given you guys 5 stars because I had your blackberry and peach wine before and absolutely loved it! Bought the whole Spec’s out.. they finally got more and I bought two more bottles of blackberry and they must have gotten a giant bad batch because these had GONE. I brought it to a get together to share how amazing it was and... yeah. Now I’m afraid to buy again because a couple ppl actually got sick off trying it. Real shame because it was quickly becoming...
