This is a great family beach. There is a very shallow slope to the beach going into the water. The risk of undertow is very slight. There is no Boardwalk as there is in more popular beaches in the area such as Hampton Beach, but it's a wonderful Beach for children to play at without the fear of anything happening to them. It's also a very quiet beach. The restrooms are clean. It cost $2 an hour to park in the parking lot unless you have a handicap placard in which you can park anywhere in the parking lot for free. If you head down the street a little bit and you park your car off the pavement that is free. Right across the street is a surf shop that also has a small coffee shop attached to it. Unfortunately, due to the surf shop across the street there are many servers that come to this beach in the morning. It is very hard to find a place to park at that time. The lifeguards come on duty at 10:15 a.m. and at that time the surfer's must move to the edge of the public beach area. On busy days they have a lot you can park at behind the shop for $20 per day. We have been coming to this beach for 50 + years and it is...
Read moreWhat a wonderful find! We typically go to Hampton Beach but it was so packed on the 4th of July this year. So we decided to drive up the coast and ended up finding this little gem of a beach! Very nice beach with soft, white sand. The waves were similar to those on Hampton Beach, though I think the water may have been a few degrees cooler. It was very clean, clear and refreshing though, and not over crowded. They had a newer bathroom and changing room building. It was clean, and looked as though it was tended to every few hours. There are outdoor showers and large changing stalls outside as well. The clientele was also respectful and quiet... definitely seemed to be more locals than anything. Parking meters available. Will definitely visit...
Read moreWe've had a house on Jenness Beach since 1941. It's among the most beautiful places I've seen. Yes, in the summer it can get crowded but never too much except at high tide. The parking limitations actually help assure that everybody who gets there has a little space on the sand. The way the town has balanced interests is great. Families, couples, friends, surfers, even people with dogs (allowed ONLY early and late during the summer, all day long the rest of the year) seem to coexist harmoniously. There were drinking problems a couple of years ago but a steady presence by local police has brought that under control for the most part. There are problems now and then but mostly the people on Jenness Beach respect the beach and respect...
