This is a very fun and interesting place for a walk. There were many people here engaged in a variety of things - a father and son were zipping around RC Cars in one of the parking lots, a group of teenagers playing pick-up football, people boarding boats for sunset cruises, people of all ages riding bikes and walking dogs. The campground is World-class, with a full RV zone where literally hundreds of people were preparing and sitting down to Saturday evening dinners. Fragrant smoke was everywhere from bonfires, cooking fires, grills and possibly a left over firework or two. I saw family so large they had 6 picnic tables joined together in one long row all sitting down to eat together - the men wore plaid with beards and the women white bonnets. A few spots down raunchy country music spilled out of a doors-open F150, bottles of booze on the table behind a shirtless tattoo covered dude grilled steaks next to a flashy new 5th-wheel camper. A church group occupied a large pavilion appearing to be having a cookout. While considering this fine, fun melting pot two very retired seniors gave me a hearty "hello!" just as a pack of about 30 kids buzzed by us on BMX bikes.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the Grand Lake Saint Mary's Park Campground is the most happening place around on a weekend like this. I sure wish I was staying...

It was beautiful. Though the alge plume stopped lake access. The host campers like to be the bathroom police though. I walked in the bathroom with a cigarette as I didn't see the outpost by the door, and didn't want to throw a cigarette on the ground. The host camper lady came from her site to the bathroom to ask me while I was using the rest room if I was smoking. She came in and washed her hands right next to the stall I was using. She Didn't use the restroom at all. (I awkwardly said no I put it out) I got it wet in the sink when I walked in and threw it in the trash can. That was creepy and over stepps the bounds of the host camper.😬 I have been in campgrounds all over the united states and never had a host camper invade my space in the rest room. I came to see the place as I was looking for a spot to spend a 14 day period in a cabin. I won't be renting a cabin here due to this overreach. She could of waited until I was done using the bathroom. Other than that weirdness it is a...

We stayed at the smaller of the two sized cabins. While the location was superb, the cabin was left wanting. First, bathrooms are not in the cabins, only a small fridge, microwave, table with 2 benches, futon full size sleeper/couch and 4 skinny bunk beds. All the mattresses were very thin. We put two together on one bunk and still needed our topper as to not feel the hard wood bottom. No shelves to place things decreased the floor space. Only two working outlets and no running water even outside. But once outside, the swing was terrific and an eagle flew by fishing for his breakfast. A picnic table and fire ring at water's edge and 2 generous...

Discovering the Hidden Gem: Grand Lake St. Mary Most people don’t realize Ohio holds one of the largest man-made lakes in the entire country… and it’s not Lake Erie. It’s hidden right here, in the quiet farm country between St. Marys and Celina a place where sunsets look endless and the water feels older than the shoreline towns around it. Welcome to Grand Lake St. Marys, a 13,500-acre reservoir originally carved out in the 1830s to feed the Miami & Erie Canal. Back then, workers dug this by hand. Today, it’s a sprawling inland sea calm, wide, and wrapped in some of the most underrated shoreline in the Midwest. The vibe here is different. Not touristy. Not chaotic. Just slow Midwest water life: herons gliding low, pontoon boats drifting past old marinas, and morning fog that settles across the lake like a soft blanket. For trails, start simple: West Bank Trail 1.3 miles of wide-open lake views. Perfect for sunrise walks or biking. Then explore the East Bank Trail, with long straightaways and those postcard views toward Celina’s lighthouse. If you want something quieter, the Windy Point Path gives you shoreline angles that feel like a hidden nature pocket in an otherwise wide-open landscape. Bird lovers already know this place pelicans, eagles, egrets, and migratory flocks that turn the sky into a moving mural. And on still days, the lake reflects everything: sky, clouds, memories. Grand Lake isn’t flashy. It’s familiar. It’s the kind of place where your mind finally slows down enough to breathe. Drop a ⚓ if you want a Weekend Escape: Grand Lake St. Marys with local eats, lakeside cabins, and the best hidden sunrise spots.#findithereohio #grandstmaryslake #TravelTok #adventure #freetoexplore

Very disappointing seeing the condition of the lake. I used to fish there as a kid with my grandparents. The water is labeled as hazardous to your health with a zero exposure to the water at all recommended. At the time I was there around 5:00 pm there was only 4 boats that could be seen on the lake. Hard to believe that the local government and the state of Ohio have left it in this pitiful state. You could see layers upon layers of algae floating through the water. Dangerous and disgusting to say the least.
