I almost don't want to review this park so that it stays quiet and the way it is.
Stumbled across this treasure with the family. What a beautiful park. If you like the woods and the river, you'll like Crosby. Named after a historical farm that once sat on the location, this park has picnic tables beneath a shelter, decent bathrooms, and a large fire pit. In addition, you can walk the paved trails (or dirt trails along the Mississippi River). There's also biking trails (Mississippi River Trail system).
We sat along the river's sandy edge and watched worms (Army worms, perhaps) drop down on strands into the river and be gobbled up by fish. It was amusing. We met a fellow hiker and her dog and had some nice conversation with her.
It's hard to believe, when you're in the park, that you're right next to St. Paul. It feels like you're in another, magical world. There's a path along the river; one through the woods, and another that is a wetland trail. Your children will love this place.
One word of advice: stay on the paths. As this is the Mississippi River flood plain, the woods are filled with wood nettle, a plant that will give you a stinging rash if you...
Read moreIn the winter this park takes on a totally different feel than in the summer. You can see far - through all the bare trees, and it's a wonderful experience. Crosby is located on the river, but has many paths that don't feature the water, so you can get your fill of whatever you want. Big, wide, clear paths, but the riverside trail is a super cute, beaten down path through the sand...again you can get whatever experience you want. There's a lake that'll freeze up, but considering we were in the 50s last week, at the moment I trust nothing.
The dogs and I hiked around for an hour and a half. They smelled some really interesting smells, because Holy smokes their noses were to the ground! And for some reason I smelled roasting marshmallows for a really good portion of my walk, and I kinda need to know what business is upwind of the park bc I left so dang hungry!!
We'll for sure...
Read moreVisited Crosby Farm Park in the middle of April and it was snow free this year. Crosby lake was ice free too. This park is a gem in the middle of St. Paul. The park has extensive paved and unpaved walking trails, but no designated biking trails. Crosby lake has fishing for panfish, Largemouth bass and N. Pike. The park is a great place for bird watching as the park is heavily wooded and a large variety of birds can seen in the park. My favorite time to visit is during the late spring in the middle of the week. A wide variety of wildlife can also be seen in the park. The park is quite large, covering several acres. and many people spend many hours fishing, bird watching or hanging out on the banks of the mississippi river that form one border of the park....
