Pike island (AKA Bdote MN...the birthplace of St Paul!) is one of my favorite spots to spend time! We have a boat harbored out of the St Paul yacht club....we and a number of other boaters from our marina and one right up the river (Watergate) beach on the Mississippi side (very important!!!!) to relax....spend time on the beach....enjoy the neat sandbar at the point of the island... the spectacular views and our dogs favorite spot!!!! The island is only accessable via foot or water...keeping it very "exclusive"! As stated above...if your going to swim...do so on the Mississippi side! The Minnesota river is very "mucky" due to the high amount of clay the river carries! Also...there are a few parks up river that generate some "trash" that floats by...so if you do take the time to hike there and you see some...please take a piece! The boaters that do show up do their best to keep it clean...taking trash with them..but if we all grab some...it will help keep the island clean.

I roamed the area since the Fort was closed and found this place. I strolled around this little secluded Pike Island in a fantastic breeze afternoon, hiking the flat trail. Very relaxing and the people are friendly too. I don't know the area well, but I don't think I would recommend coming along for kids and girls/ladies, especially in the late evening.

This is a beautiful little trail. Almost completely flat packed dirt/silt with a few patches of very fine sand. The surroundings are nice and the loop is very enjoyable. The confluence of the rivers makes for a striking view halfway through the loop.

Gorgeous views, excellent trails-especially considering the flooding lately. Went on a lovely hike, saw a mating pair of bald eagles swooping down and around, riding air currents- there were wonderful animal encounters- had a deer come moseying out from the greenery, amble about for a while (I was standing VERY still so as not to disturb her), she came within about 10 feet of me, grazing on leaves. Had a wonderful time, and I'll be...

Great atmosphere. The woods look as though Frodo and his hobbits from Lord of th Rings will come popping out at any time. Lots of hollowed out trees. The 3.9 mile dirt walking path is awesome and follows both the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers. Be sure not to ride your bike on the island, I did not know this and one of the caretakers let me know as I was leaving. Felt...
