This was our first visit to Jekyll Island and was we weren't disappointed. We were surprise of the cost of entering the island. The island is a lay back community and plenty of leisure enjoyment. There were numerous outstanding restaurants for our enjoyment. It is lush with history with many historical homes to view. We visited the Turtle Rehab Center which very educational. We highly recommend you to visit the center. The island is lush with wild life that you need to be aware of. One incident while I was doing some photography trip. I stumbled upon a 4-foot alligator enjoying the water. Having grown up in Louisiana, I'm aware of how alligator behavior. Slowly backing way, I was able to obtain photo of the creature. Read moreLove Jekyll hate the gates!! The people taking your payment are sooooooo slowwwwww o. M. G. I sat for 22 minutes to get in. It's faster without an attendant on duty at the entrance gates. 10$ per to enter each day. A little steep for essential workers only coming on for an hour or two. I don't agree with charging insurance field representatives, county assessors, lawn care companies, or any one coming in to provide a service and not there to vacation. It's ridiculous to charge us to come provide a service for the Islanders. Otherwise the beaches are beautiful because this is a protected island. Let's keep the barrier islands under state authority. So it doesn't become another Saint Simons with horrible traffic, way too much building and basically over population of...
Read moreJekyll Island is a personal favorite of mine.
You do pay an entrance fee. Considering the quality of park, beautiful views and beaches, the $6 car fee is reasonable.
One of the best Welcome Centers I've ever visited!
The staff is friendly, and very knowledgeable about things to do and see on Jekyll Island. They will gladly answer your questions and offer recommendations. All with a hearty coastal Georgia smile!
The gift shop offers a wide assortment of beach themed items and decor. None of the merchandise is that usual obnoxiously tacky overpriced junk. It's quite nice.
You'll enjoy your visit to the island. Stay too long and you may never...
