Mt. Washington Road was CLOSED In CT by Mt Riga Inc. Had to arrive at trail head from North. Wonderful hike from the trail head on Mt. Washington Road. Some moderate climbing for two short sections but otherwise a good hike even in early January and temps in high 20's with the sun shining and no wind. We were confused by the marker because there is no CT noted on the marker that is right on the trail (only Mass and NY). According to GPS, the tri state marker should be further north of the stone marker we found. We looked but could not find any other marker. Suggest continuing westerly in to NY to see the vista on the trail of the Route 22 valley and Catsksill mountains in the distance.

Beautiful hike, and the Mountain Laurels (the official Connecticut State Flower) were in bloom everywhere along the trail the first week of July. Mostly in the shade, but be prepared that more than half of the trail is picking your footsteps in sloping rock as you climb (technically, "scramble") the ~450 feet from the middle of the trail to the top. No equipment needed, but I recommend hiking shoes, water, and a snack.
