I love this hike. Reading previous reviews it might be confusing to some when they read reviews that say it’s easy and others that say it is steep and difficult. Both are true depending on where you approach.

You can enter the trailhead from Devonshire or Lakeline. If you start from Lakeline and head straight up the trail toward the tower it’s very steep. My guess is that those who say it’s a bit challenging are hitting the trail straight on. For an easier and more winding experience start your hike from the trailhead just below and South of the H-rock.

If you enter from Devonshire (or Lakeline….you just need to head toward the H-rock) you can enter the trail just South of the H-rock (20 yards or another entry point about 200 yards further South). This will take you up to and behind the H-rock. If you follow the trail around the North side of the mountain weaving up towards the ridge line the trail offers a much milder switch back approach. Follow the ridge line to the tower (you will see it) and from there follow the trail on up to Jack’s peak. This approach is significantly easier on you and your dog/s and safer on the way down.

The views are incredible and the hike is rewarding whichever...

Difficult hike, steep inclines with no shade, and 2 deceptive peaks before you actually reach Jack's Mailbox (currently an ammo case). Will test your legs and stamina, and I'm apparently more out of shape than I'd care to admit. The descent was almost as difficult, so hiking boots with good ankle protection is recommended. My hiking partner handled it without much difficulty, but he's younger and in better shape. Plan accordingly.

I'm docking the trail 1 star for two reasons: they've removed the mailbox and other decorative items at the top. I understand why, I guess, but at the same time, just let people enjoy things. And the lack of shade can really make this a brutal hike to actually enjoy. It's more like an endurance test...

This is one of the most beautiful spots I have ever been to. You can see the heavenly Salt Lake Valley in a way that is totally different from driving or walking the streets because everything becomes quiet. I spent my senior year at Highland in 2003 & 2004 living near here. So I saw this peak walking home and decided to visit it, very happy that I did. I brought my Samoyed/ Golden Retriever here. It is a nice walk. When I reached the top I found a mailbox and a story that I will never forget. May God bless Angel Jack and His infinitely special Family. Families can be together forever. So when I reached the top I thought at first the mailbox from afar was litter, but the story inside brings my eyes to watering now. I am sorry for thyne loss. The story of Jack is still with me.

Ovo je jedno od najljepših mjesta na kojima sam ikada bio. Proveo sam završnu godinu u Highlandu 2003. i 2004. živeći ovdje u blizini. Tako da sam vidio ovaj vrh kako hoda kući i odlučio da ga posjetim, veoma sretan što jesam. Doveo sam svog samojeda/zlatnog retrivera ovdje. To je lijepa šetnja. Kada sam stigao na vrh našao sam sanduče i priču koju nikada neću zaboraviti. Neka Bog blagoslovi Angel Jacka i njegovu beskrajno posebnu porodicu.

It's quite an elevation gain (1300ft) but a short hike distance-wise (2.5). Doable, just be careful and take your time. There is no shade on this trail so bring a hat and sunscreen. Shoes with good traction can come on handy on the way down. Very nice view to the mountains and Salt Lake City skyline. You can write a note and put it in the mailbox up top. Once you make it to the antenna, which is a little past halfway, you'll make it to the top for sure.

Jack's Peak or Jack's Mountain trail is only 1.6 miles from parkin with about 0.4 miles shared with the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. Don't be deceived by the short distance, there is a 1300 foot ascent in those final 1.2 miles. The trail winds up over a couple false peaks before you finally reach Jack's Peak. Expect many switchbacks and some sketchy areas with loose rocks and steep descents. Overall a fun hike or a quick trail run. Worth checking out.
