Very enhanced, big rolling banked turns and extreme fabricated structures/bridges and drops. Trails are marked with skill level signage; green for easy, blue intermediates and black diamonds for most difficult. Just like being on a ski hill. If you are looking for a well designed and technical place for all age groups and abilities this place is for you!
The afternoon I was there it felt much like a public swimming pool. Very crowded and maybe 5% of the riders were old enough to have a drivers license. Excluding the minivan moms that were there with the young peddlers. These groups were combined with body armor, full faced helmet and big travel suspension crowd.
Everyone looked like they were having fun! Also several group mountain bike lessons were underway. It reminded me of "ski lessons" that you find in the winter on the bunny hill. Did I mention it was crowded?
I found that it was easy enough to slip away from the crowd (sort of) and find a techy, roller coaster of a trail to enjoy. If you felt like you were over your head most of the enhancements had an easy way around. At least on the trails I rode. Other trails were posted as expert only. I can not comment other than, "thanks for the warning"
If you are looking for a single track that takes you off into the woods with climbing and natural challenges go to Grand Ridge Park. It is real close. You can park once and ride both trails. I started and ended my day at Duthie Hill and rode Len's trail in Grand ridge for the "main coarse". It made for a nice 2 to 3...
Read moreThis is certainly a 5-star bike skills park, with plenty of trails offering all the bike-park features you would ever want. I've only been once so far, but I rode here with someone who has been more times than he can count. One of my favorite trails was Ryan's Eternal Flow, which is a trail that seems to zig-zag up and down like some kind of natural half pipe, where you go up a hillside, then come back down, then up again a little farther down, etc., all while traversing alongside a trail.
One consideration is whether bike parks are your thing. I'm a novice. I find that bridge drops, jumps, and other advanced terrain don't really excite me, as I'm 45 and don't want to break my leg or crack my skull trying to jump off something. There are plenty of people here wearing full-face helmets. I'm more into trail riding for exercise. In this respect, there isn't a ton of elevation to climb, but you can certainly get a workout going around all the various trails. They loop well and allow different levels of riders to enjoy the same area without splitting too much up. The whole park is well thought out. All trails seem to converge into a central clearing and seem extremely well planned out. Overall, this is one the best bike parks in the northwest and certainly a place to explore. I visited on a Friday morning and it wasn't too crowded.
Most trails are one way, so you won't crash into someone coming the opposite way. Also, there aren't many hikers, as these are clearly mountain bike trails. So no need to dodge...
Read moreFrom a first time visitor: We arrived around 4:15 in the afternoon to check it out and noticed that both parking lots are closed due to COVID. We noticed that there were cars parked along Duthie Hill Rd. just west of the southwest parking lot so weparked there, unloaded our bikes, found a trail through the woods, and made our way to the closed southwest parking lot. From there we found the trail then the access road to the main Clearing.
This place is incredibly well-developed and amazing. So many trails, but hard to figure out where to start them. I had left my phone in the truck so I had to rely on their map, but struggled to find which trails were which. Whenever I went to where I thought I should start an easy trail, the trail gave a different name and skill level than what I was expecting or I was met with a WRONG WAY sign. We were limited on time so we tried to find a trail to ride that was easy enough. We eventually just had to ride back along the access road to get ready to head back to the truck. We saw that one of the longest, easiest trails on their map is called "Bootcamp," but found that it is a very short trail just off of the access road after all.
The take away: We should have allowed for more time to explore and figure it out - and I needed my phone to help me find our way to the beginnings of the trails. But, that before ng said, we will be back and can't wait to take in all this place...
