It is a working church with a historical mission well maintained. It is now a FEDERAL PARK, so it is very well maintained. In back of the Mission extend trails that go into the new River Walk walking system. The walkways are smooth, wide, concrete, and can support foot and bike traffic. (There are bicycles and E-bikes to rent at various points.) From here you can literally walk or ride all the way to the Downtown River Walk (if you are willing to traverse 12 miles or so.) Throughout, there are little cards explaining the history of the various landmarks. There are bridges, aqueducts, sculpture exhibits, and the irrigation system restored from the Mission historical period. It is a lovely place to enjoy history, nature, River, and sky. There are turtles and fish in the river and various wild birds. Nearby is Stinson Airport (also accessible from the walking trail if you head north). You will likely see small aircraft practicing touch and go take-offs and landings as you walk or ride. The Mission has a bus stop right at the entrance.
