This park is always bustling from the wee hours of the morning far into the evening night, you will find children and families and fur babies enjoying this hidden gem! The park has a very active community center with various activities and programs offered throughout the yrsr. The updated basketball court is rarely unused, leading the park to extend more space by adding a half court next to the main one. Their is also a playscape, baseball field and soccer field have plenty of activities going on as well. A little library adds a bonus to the many other amenities & most recently, a few picnic tables have been upgraded to include covered areas for respite from the hot Texas sun.
This park even has a huge public pavilion and several random park benches, tables and grilling stations or parties or picnics. The pavillion is conveniently located close to the indoor (very well kept/clean) full restrooms with 3 stalls on each side unlike other nearby parks that only have oversized "porti-potties."
Unknown to many, this park extends from Hunt Lane & Rasa Drive all the way to Horal Street, which offers additional parking & alternative access to the walking trails, more picnic & grilling stations with a well lit path leading through the park connecting to the walking trail that surrounds the soccer field.
There is also a small mini dog park within a partially fenced in area with a dog run & a few benches for owners to sit and watch their dogs play. This is located about midway between the main area of the park & the Horal parking entrance.
Finally, if you live nearby, within walking distance, there is a very much hidden entrance (much like an overgrown "Secret Garden" type pathway that allows a quick paved pathway shortcut from Kernan Drive (in between 2 residential homes) that allows access directly to the footbridge centrally located midway in the park. In addition, there is also an entrance on the other side of the footbridge off of Concio Street, which is a dead end to the street yet has a gateway entrance directly to the trails.
*These 2 entrance ways do not have parking areas; rather offers locals 2 easy cut throughs for easy access if walking to & from the park. This park is ever evolving and a much appreciated recreational area for many.
I've been walking my dog to & from this park at random times throughout my 14 years living nearby. I have watched the park grow & am very appreciative of it's existence & impressed with the enormous amount of neighbors who all validate this parks' ability to stand out from some of the others in the...
Read moreHidden just outside Lackland AFB, the Rainbow Hills Park features a neighborhood community center with a nice basketball court. I'm not sure what else the park features, because I followed a fellow hooper that loves to play there and my attention was on the courts. We arrived and I discovered a main court that's covered from the rain and that beaming hot Texas sun. I was ready to sign up after that! They also have an uncovered half court just to the side for warming up or shoot-arounds. Talking with some of the frequent players revealed that the playing surfaces, along with the double rims and glass backboards were recently upgraded. I sat on the aluminum sideline bleachers and witnessed a range of player talent from up and coming AAU, to High School and maybe some D2 level. If you visit, you can't miss the San Antonio Spurs spirit. The logo is painted on the court, the stickers are on the backboards and the young talent seemed to respected and love the game. Personally, I...
