Arrived at about 7:30 pm in late May (Memorial Day Monday), with light still out but it was already cold and had to wear a jacket. This is not a standard park, it is an overlook into the desert below, ahead and on the right if the 180 degree view. It is quite expansive and breathtaking. There are no safety fencing while viewing the huge scenic desert and mountains so caution must be taken. This place is located a short drive from Julian on the way to Lake Cuyamaca with the lake being almost 10 miles away. Upon entry via a paved space from the main road this quickly led to a paved large area (that can be driven through a round turn) with 180 degree view or overlook of (road leading to) Anza Borego desert in the distance to the right, Julian town with business and homes on the hills to the left view which also had misty clouds settling in there. In the view, Ramona and Poway could not be seen but it would be yonder and to the left. Check google maps of your location to see the names of the huge mountain ranges in the 180...

If you are nearby you have to stop here, the view is spectacular. As I gaze out over Desert View Park in Julian, California, I am struck by the sheer immensity of the landscape. The earth falls away beneath me, a vast, rippling canvas of sun-drenched hills and valleys stretching all the way to the Salton Sea. The air is crisp and clean, carrying the scent of chaparral and pine. In the distance, the faint outline of mountains rises like a jagged spine, a testament to the raw, untamed power of nature. It's a place that feels both ancient and alive, a timeless vista that invites contemplation and awe. The silence here is profound, broken only by the occasional cry of a hawk circling high above. I could sit here for hours, just watching the light shift and change, painting the desert in a million different shades of gold,...

Fun winding 45 minute drive from Poway and even better view from this location. You can simple sit from this lookout spot and enjoy views of the mountain range and dessert for miles depending on air quality. And if you decide to drive up in the evening, the amount of stars you can potentially see are ridiculous, that is, depending of have fast the weather can change from up here. Gets very windy and clouds can roll in very fast, but a great place to get away from the business of being...

Went to Lake Cuyamaca, CA to see the Perseid meteor shower. This location had the least surface light. Unfortunately many others knew this to, so there was a stream of headlights and a near full moon making it more difficult to see the falling meteors. Lying on the ground and watching the stars was a transforming experience and yes we saw meteors.

Amazing views of the desert from this park! Huge sweeping views of the Anza Borrego and Salton Sea. No real amenities like a picnic bench or bathroom that I saw, but those views were amazing! It's only a mile or two outside of Julian on Highway 79, so its definitely worth the effort. If you are a photographer; this place is a must.
