Edwards was our first stop on a Sunday tour of Ramona for three reasons: it's just about the Eastern-most winery, and our plan was to work our way back West toward Carlsbad; the reviews here were terrific; and Edwards is one of the few that open at 11 instead of noon. And wow, this set a high bar for the rest of the day. We were the only people there, the wine was fantastic, and chatting with the owner / winemaker was really delightful.
The Happenstance Cuvee II was a delicious red blend with an interesting origin story. The Cab was very good. And that Syrah...wow. We couldn't walk away without buying a bottle of that Syrah.
$15 for a tasting of those three wines plus an extra pour of any of them is a really good deal for the quality you get.
Nice property, lovely owner, sweet dog (she might bark as you arrive, but don't be deterred, she's...
Read moreMy visit to Edwards Vineyards was a very enjoyable one. 2 of us visited recently and we met Beth, the owner. She was served us 2020 Picpoul Blanc/Syrah which is supposed to be a white blend with 44% Syrah. This wine is dry, fruity and very lovely. 2011 Forlorn II is a red blend w/50% Syrah & 50% Petite Sirah - a medium body, upfront palate, instant fruit flavor and well balanced wine. Last wine was a 2015 Syrah - this wine by far was one of the best Syrahs I've tasted in a long time - was bold for a Syrah, medium bodied and fruity and would probably pair well with food. I left with several bottles of this wine and will be back for more. Wine tasting is $12 and are waived with wine purchase. Oh, and unlike other wineries, Beth is very generous with her wine pours giving you the chance to be fair in...
Read moreI concur with the other accolades! Victor and Beth Edwards produce the finest wines south of Santa Barbara County. The rose is medium-bodied and absolutely thirst quenching. The Syrahs equal some of the best in California. The Petits Sirahs are full bodied but not "enamel removing" :) Everything is delicious and hand crafted. Best of all they are extremely reasonably priced, especially considering the high quality and low volume production. A visit to the "Tasting Patio" on the weekend is a joy because of Beth's wonderful hospitality - and if you're lucky you'll get to meet Annie the Wonder Dog, and Victor the vineyard manager, winemaker, and CTO (Chief Tractor Operator). Don't miss this terrific winery on Highway 78 halfway between Ramona...
