I have been to Mt Soledad in La Jolla a few times. We go there whenever a friend or relatives come to visit us in San Diego, CA. I can see this mountain from my backyard. The road leading to Mt Soledad is a very scenic & beautiful, expensive homes line along both sides of the road. At present, the Mt Soledad has a fantastic monument, celebrating our veterans, especially those from the Korean War & before. They recently built a million dollar bench for you to sit on, relax & enjoy beautiful scenery. There's a large cross at the top of the monument. On the West side you can go down about 200 feet & can observe the majestic Pacific Ocean & the UCSD Campus. To the north is the coast line, going all the way to Carlsbad & beyond. To the East is central & East San Diego. To the south is the town of San Diego with high rise buildings. Further south lies Mexico. Thus there's a 360 degree view of San Diego & surrounding area. If you get a chance, visit Mount Soledad. It is a very peaceful place to visit. When you come down, there are great restaurants & places to visit in La Jolla. ( pronounced, La Hoya ! ) Happy travelling...
Read moreMount Soledad is a prominent landmark in the city of San Diego, California, United States. The mountaintop is the site of the Mount Soledad cross, the subject of a 25-year controversy over the involvement of religion in government which concluded in 2016. The 822-foot (251 m) tall hill[3] lies between Interstate 5 to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. It is mostly within the community of La Jolla where the northern and eastern slopes form a sharp escarpment along the Rose Canyon fault. The community of Pacific Beach is on the gentler southern slope. There are several radio and television transmitters located on the summit including KFMB-TV and KGTV, the CBS and ABC affiliates...
Read moreThis is a must-visit when you're in San Diego. While it's not the fastest spot to reach, it is easy to get in the park, and parking is free (when you can find a spot). There are about 10 parking spots near the cross, and another small parking lot just a short walk down the driveway. The 360° views are absolutely outstanding, especially in good weather. There are grassy areas for relaxing and having a picnic. While there are no picnic tables, shades, or trees, there are a few cement benches so you can take a load off and soak in the sights. Don't leave without seeing many plaques giving memory to our fallen soldiers. And while you're next to the cross, say a prayer for this great...
