Eagle Rock at Alum Rock Park is a hidden gem right here in San Jose, an easy-to-moderate hike rewarded by sweeping views of the South Bay and Silicon Valley. The short climb up the North Rim or loop trail gets your heart pumping, but the payoff at the summit is absolutely worth it.
The trail is family-friendly and well-maintained, perfect for morning or evening outings. I love spotting turkey vultures, hawks, even deer, and scrub jays while hiking, and on a clear day, the vista stretches all the way to the peninsula.
There’s a cozy picnic area near the Eagle Rock parking lot with shaded tables and BBQ pits, a great spot to hang out before or after the hike.
Whether you're bringing kids, friends, or going solo, Eagle Rock offers a refreshing slice of nature and beauty without venturing far from home. Don’t miss the chance to catch sunset from the rock, when city lights begin to sparkle, it’s seriously magical.
Highly recommend Eagle Rock for anyone looking for a quick, rewarding outdoor escape...

Very beautiful area. 1.5 miles round trip and if you want to extend your hike, when you come back down consider taking another one of the adjacent loops nearby. We turned this into a 5 mile hike and great workout.
