Read moreWoah. Breathtaking little Park. Camping during a wind advisory... do so at your own discretion! Lol!!! Listing Pros and Cons- (I'll give details of the cons too.) Pros: Gorgeous. -Stunning views. -Flat ground spots - good for tents. -Lush grass good for sleeping. -Sea side views almost everywhere. -Self check in. -Campfire rings with grill. -Pet friendly. -Dog bags if you run out. -Kid friendly. (I would say older kids though as there are some cliffs.) -Close to a lot of other parks. -They had a boat launch area. -Kayaks to rent (weather permitting) -Lots of green space and hiking trails. -Not a far drive from town! -Beautiful drive too. Cons: -Bathrooms at the campsite CLOSED... in early April!!! And it was that time of the month and I have a little bladder. That SUCKED. (We had to walk or drive down to the main office for a bathroom. We also had two kids with us. Not fun.) -Out side water was shut off in early April, so no washing dishes or hands. Brisk ocean winds. Maybe either camp when it's warmer, unless you love cold camping, or do what our neighbors did and bring a little camper van. They probably slept better than us. I know they did. I didn't sleep. -I was worried the tree branches would come down on our tent because of the wind. Again, check the weather... that part was on us. -They didn't provide wood or charcoal for the sites, even at cost. -The main office area looked super messy inside and took away from the beauty of the place. -Finally, when driving up there was a messy shack that kind of terrified me and it also was an eyesore. -No cell phone service/reception or emergency phone. -As mentioned by another reviewer, the campsites are a bit close, however that didn't bother us because there was really no one else there in early April.
Overall, an experience! Our tent died the second day so we had to get a pet friendly hotel. I don't regret it though. We'd go back, but in the summer. Hopefully the bathrooms would...
Read moreLoved our experience at this campground! The check in process is simple and the rangers were helpful in making sure we knew where the beach access and walking trails are.
We camped in August and there was a burn ban so only propane stoves were allowed. We didn't know that until we arrived with our firewood...so next time, I would call the campground to see if fires are allowed. We reserved campsite 6 and 9 for our group and they were close to each other and they both had great views. Campsite 7 would be great if you want shade.
Sunsets are perfect because it’s facing West. My sunset photo is from the overlook area at the campground. The campground had so many blackberry bushes so we would eat them all the time. There is a beach area, loading dock to launch kayaks, and fun walking trails along the cliffs. BUT our favorite part was that we saw orcas from the campground! Right when we arrived and were checking in, we looked out and saw orcas. So we kept watching them until we couldn't see them anymore and that was incredibly special.
Reservation Process - When the campground reservations go on sale in the spring, the reservations fill up quickly. It was a bit tricky for me to reserve 2 sites for 2 nights each because I had to reserve each campsite separately which didn't guarantee that another site would be available the same nights.
Ferry - the process to get your car reserved on the ferry is pretty simple so that made it great to get over to San Juan.
We'd go...
