It's a large park with an extensive trail system, but only a small portion of the trails are easy-moderate. Two small loops that connect to form a figure -8, about 4 miles total. Anything that branches off the main loop is very steep and intense. When we last rode those trails (2020), they were poorly maintained with a lot of cow and tire ruts, making it an unenjoyable ride. If you like intense climbs, hiking or mountain biking, give it a shot.
Our family enjoys the easy loops in the main part of the park. Great for family hikes and introductory mountain biking.
The park is a bit hard to get to, having to travel on a one-lane road coming from either direction. And the Northern roads are very rough.
All in all, we enjoy the park, but it has a very specific purpose for us and we don't go out there often because the effort to get there is high. (Not a great ROI, to use a...
Read moreIf you love to stumble onto pieces and places of native California history and you love seeking out hidden mysteries, you can't do much better than this low key unassuming park. It's out of the way and the landscape is barren until you walk ANY trail and start looking closer at clusters of trees and rocks...hundreds of unmarked, (perhaps unknown?) places allowing one to contemplate with awe how indigenous people lived here before colonization and decimation. Highly recommend, especially for those with unusually open minds and hearts. I wish I could be there to see you seeing this for the first time.
If you have gone here and think I am exaggerating, that's OK, go on to the next park, leave this one to us dreamers and...
Read moreLove this place, but look out after rain! The trails here dissolve into the kind of mud that sticks to your shoes in huge clumps. A few days of dry weather and you'll probably still have mud, but you can get around it. Regardless, if you come prepared to deal with mushy trails, the landscape is gorgeous when rainfall has greened it up! The air is fresh, clean, invigorating; the trees exude their pheromones; a blanket of rolling green hills wraps you in natural wonder. The parking lot is large enough to handle the flow, and there are picnic tables and 2 pit toilets. If you're doing the long drive to Morgan Territory, reward yourself with a hike that treats you to all the natural beauty it...
