Wonderful location but not so for staff
Wonderful location and nice facility but park personnel unfriendly and unhelpful. We arrived on Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend. Winds of 25-35 mph, driving rains, and temperatures in the high 40s had driven away many campers. Reserve America had assigned up a space in the most unprotected part of the park and far away from the toilet facilities. Upon arriving at the park office we found four employees non of whom could muster a “welcome” or other friendly greeting. We asked if, given the weather and emptiness of the park, we could be assigned a space in a more protected area and closer to the toilet facility. We were immediately informed that campers stay in the spaces they are assigned. This response left us a bit flabbergasted as we had just come from Nickerson State Park a few miles further out on the Cape where we received a friendly greeting and when the staff saw the site that we had been assigned by Reserve America quickly pointed out that this was a very unlevel site and far from the bathrooms. They were quick to help us find a better space and added helpful suggestions for our stay. Upon my inquiring, the young lady who rejected our request for help finding a better space turned out to be the new park superintendent MacKenzie Hyldburg. My efforts to plead for a bit of friendship and help given the terrible weather conditions and availability of space proved to be of no avail. As a 78 year old life time camper who has visited many of our wonderful countries State and National Perks and enjoyed the hospitality of the great majority of Park staffs it was sad to encounter such an unfriendly and unhelpful staff at Scusset Beach. As a leader of the park staff I worry that the new directors attitude toward park visitors can only be a negative example for other employees including the three who witnessed...
Read moreHow is in the world this place even exist! Or existing with a bunch uneducated patrol and it’s leader! I was on my electric scooter 🛴 cruising around a public park area. however, One of the old patrol approached me with very aggressive attitude telling me to put my scooter away and called the cop on me! According to his made up rules that the place does not allow to have scooter, which I can’t find anywhere on the website or in the area that Restrict about scooters. As I disagreed that why everyone else can use them but not me! He started to order me to leave and call the cop on me! The cop arrived and spent a minutes with him then came up to me told me that I can’t have scooter operating in this reservation but he is not sure whether the old man statements are true! But he saying it’s dangerous to ride a scooter, he said I can hurt people with it! But what about bicycles or cars there! Would not they caused the same if they run into people? I do not think this is right! The next day I called in to talk to the park director John about whether the rules are existing! He refused to answered my questions! Oh c’mon it just a simple question are the scooters allow or not! I just riding a scooter! I did not bring the tank over there or cause anyone troubles! If this thing is very important that have to have the police involved then why there is none of the signs or websites mention it in the...
Read moreNice little Beach area inside of a state park. There's a playground next to the parking lot, as a plus for people camping and those taking a break from playing the water.
At the beach, the water is as cold as sin. My toes went numb in seconds, and it wasn't the most pleasant feeling ever. Little kids were mostly hovering in the areas where the water had left little "lakes" behind--probably because the water was so cold. There aren't a lot of waves, but maybe that's influenced by high tide vs low tide. There is a life guard on duty, and she wasn't pleased that we brought a floaty for the baby and my two year old. She said it's against the rules--so my bad! But it's not like either kid really to immerse themselves in the cold water anyway.
Overall, I give four stars because the kids still had a lot of fun playing, and there are some nice areas to walk around. However, don't go thinking the water is nice and warm. Even in 90 degree weather (which it was today), it's still super cold! But at least we burned some time and the kids had fun. There is also a little snack bar that sells food and slushies/ice cream. That was a great little perk.
Summary: good place to do a variety of things minus actually swimming, unless you don't mind swimming in cold water. There are beaches further down the Cape that have much...
