Thornton Burgess Society — Attraction in Sandwich

Lovely natural setting with trails and borders a waterway, with several buildings that inform about the natural world in the area. It has a gift shop that showcases Thorton Burgess' books, who was a very prolific writer of books on animals, birds and the natural world, who grew up in Sandwich, Massachusetts. Most books are geared towards children, but not all. Even the children's books have information that help understand the animals roles on Cape Cod. Fabulous historic place! The home of Peter rabbit. In the summer they have many animals in the education center, including Peter himself some of which you can pet or hold. There are lovely gardens in the front and back as well as a pond. If you're lucky, you will see the swan family swimming around. They offer jam making classes and have a great gift shop where you can buy jellies and jams, trinkets and collectable Sandwich cup plates. Highly recommended stop while you are...

This is a lovely place to visit!

We loved all the flowers, the pond, picnic tables, watching the woman make marmalade through the window . We didn’t go in the kids learning area because it was closed that day (bummer!)

The gift shop is great too, and when you buy jam you’re supporting their conservation efforts in the region.
