Trione-Annadel State Park is one of Santa Rosa’s main hiking attractions. Neighboring with Spring Lake Regional park, this 5,092 acre, 14 trail filled park can’t get boring quick!
My group and I parked at Channel Drive. You can take a walk down the paved road that is also a part of Annadel and the only trail that allows dogs. They still have to be on a leash and please pick up after yourself! While we did end up walking the paved road trail on the way back to the parking lot, we started up the mountain of Cobble Stone Trailhead. Since it has been a rainy winter the trail is muddy so wear shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. We ended up hiking all the way to Lake Ilsanjo via Canyon and Spring Creek Trail. Although a long hike, the beautiful lake view felt so peaceful and refreshing. You can even fish there if you have the right licensing!
I loved how the beginning of the hike you are in a canopy of trees. Then you come to really open space. I didn’t like the dry grass just because it makes the nature look lifeless. Also, even though it isn’t convenient they don’t have trash cans around the park so make sure to save yours until you find the nearest trash can! Also, on this Cobble Stone Trailhead there were no restrooms, but on some of the other trails they have restroom buildings and portable restrooms.
I definitely advise you to wear sunscreen and bring lots of water especially during the warmer season because when you’re in more of the open space on the trail the sun can really shine down on you.
Unfortunately I wouldn’t say this is wheelchair accessible. I haven’t hiked all of the trails, but I hear that if you take the ones that horses go on it is doable since it’s more space. Also, there isn’t any playground for the kiddos. It’s more of a park for hiking, biking, and horse back riding. There are trials that go as short as 3 miles and as long as 13 miles.
To the beautiful people of Sonoma County and visitors abroad, if you’re a nature lover and explorer I wouldn’t miss out on Annadel State Park. With its hidden picnic benches, little creeks deep in the trees, and wildflowers all around I wouldn’t miss out on this...
Read moreWithin an hours walk you will feel like you have left the city life and will be on your way to a mini vacation of peace and ease. This is a great place to take the family for a hike or a bike ride. If you are out for a family mountain bike ride with little guys be prepared to take your time walking with the tikes. There are a lot of large rocks on the trails that will feel like huge boulders to them and they may need to get off the bikes and walk through the challenging spots. This park will make anyone a strong mountain biker. Just be respectful of all the other users at all times and please stay on the marked trails. The rest of the wildlife thanks you for respecting their homes. The other great thing about this park is its proximity to great local restaurants. All of them next to Howarth Park are excellent eats and the yogurt shop is a perfect end for a long day of adventure and exercise! I am also a fan of planning my hike to end on Rough Go in the evening to watch the sun set over Santa...
Read moreBeautiful Day at Trione-Annadel State Park & Spring Lake
We had a perfect weather day to explore Trione-Annadel and Spring Lake! The skies were clear, the temperature was just right — couldn’t have asked for better conditions for a hike.
We were lucky enough to spot baby quails along the trail and even saw a baby goose near the lake — super cute and a great surprise for the kids.
The trails were in great shape, and the scenery was beautiful as always. However, be careful — there is poison oak along some areas, especially if you’re going off the main paths. Keep an eye out if you have kids or pets with you.
The only downside was that the kayak and boat rentals weren’t open at the scheduled 11 AM time on the Spring Lake side. We waited around, but no staff ever showed up, which was disappointing since we were really looking forward to it.
Still, overall, a lovely day and a great experience. We’ll definitely be back — hopefully next time with boats on the...
