I absolutely adore Pickwick Landing State Park. I could honestly go on and on forever but I’ll try to narrow it down to the highlights.
So a few of my personal favorite features:
Paw’s Landing : My dog, Princess, my mama and I are particularly fond of Paw’s Landing because it is a gated area specifically for dogs where they can run free and social with watering stations and accommodations. Two sections seperated for big dogs and little dogs. Right by the water and the Pickwick Inn and let me tell you- If you go in the evenings in the warmer months you’ll catch the setting sun over that water. The sunset is magnificent.
The Butterfly Garden: A truly beautiful little area that loops right in with the walking track featuring tons of beautiful flower and foliage that help support a thriving butterfly population. Like something out of the dream in the springtime.
The Aviary: I am rather fond of the Aviary and it’s winged inhabitants. The owls Arrow, Ollie and Owlbert Einstein are a hoot…. forgive me for the pun. Mabel the vulture is shy but sweet and always friendly to me when she’s getting some sun on her feathers. Mischief the vulture is particularly playful and I have always had great fun playing peek-a-boo with him. Foshi the little kestrel is always vocal and last but not least the hawks, Lt. Dan and Elle are absolutely beautiful.
The Reptile Room: A lovely little edition with a few snakes this year. The little snake named Athena has been particularly active and friendly the last few times I’ve visited.
Swimming, Fishing and Such : There are three swimming beaches and all of theme are fantastic. I’ve spent many hours in that water and cooling off in the summertime. Plenty of fishing opportunities as well.
Walking Trails and Hiking Opportunities: I believe there are two official hiking trails and plenty of walking to be done in the park with beautiful scenery in bounds.
This is one of my absolute favorite places to visit on a regular basis. These are just a few of my favorites but there is so much more...
Read moreThe park and surrounding area are very pretty. We have enjoyed the trails which have been clear and easily passable from our prior 2 visits. The staff is professional and courteous. The Inn Restaurant has a nice view of the lake. The food, seafood buffet, was horrible with very little seafood. It was about an hour from closing and most items were tough and hard to eat which was pretty bad considering our dinner for 3 (buffet and drink) was around $70.00. The bathroom and Kitchen in our cabin was clean. The beds were comfortable and clean. We liked that each bedroom had a counter/vanity with mirror and closet and were a nice size. That said Cabin 9 badly needs some work. The outside front ramp door would not catch and so the wind blew it back and forth making a loud banging noise. until we stacked wood against it. The phone in the cabin does not work. The stove and oven are barely usable. The 2 left burners do not work and don't even have wiring. It took 1 hour and 15 minutes to bake a cobbler that usually takes 35 minutes at most. I used the right front burner, large skillet which was so close to the wall the skillet would not center on the eye. The bedroom doors stick or don't close. The couch and chairs were comfortable though. I would return because I like the feel of the park and the sweet scent of the surrounding pine trees, and the area in general, but if you need a dog cabin rent Cabin 10. We had it last time and it's in a little better shape than Cabin...
Read moreI am more than disappointed in the states policy to not allow metal detecting on the beach. Period. "You might recover some history." SMH Isn't that better than lost in the water and wasted away. History is best left to rot in Tennessee. People trashing the beach and water, that's ok. Someone detecting... oh no... get em.... Do we find historical items on the beach. Rarely on a "public" beach, if ever. It's been filled to the gills with sand and backfill. What we do find is lots of your trash. Needles. Razorblades. Knives. Sharp objects that cut people's feet. Pull tabs. Cans. Juice tops.... etc We do more cleaning than anything. This is the only state I have come across to be so restrictive. What's even sadder is that a "public" park I pay for and a person in which whom I also pay for, charges me to use the park and also tells me I can't do this that and the other. None of which interferes with anothers enjoyment of "our" park. In most cases, it improves the quality of it. I have been gone from Tennessee for 20 years. It's more like California now. I miss the southern hospitality and the friendly people. The freedom. Now, everyone is just angry and controlled. Since I have no use for the parks, can I just opt out paying for them and our overseers? Public land is for public use. Not to be controlled by our...
