I haven't been there in some time but I used to live on this land and family lived there until the flood came and washed everyone away - it didn't feel very park-like when I lived there! The park is at the southern tip of the Blackland Prairie, a long, thin strip of unique geography that runs up through Northeastern Texas. Bordered on the North by the Edwards Plateau and Hill Country, and on the South by Post Oak Savannah, the flora and fauna of the prairie are quite different than what you'll find even just a few miles away in the surrounding area. Lots of birds and other wildlife, when I lived there I saw Horned Toads, Road Runners, Wild Turkey, etc. In the summer watch out for various snake, though they are rare (birds eat them). Ants as well, and speaking of stinging things, Bull Nettle. OMG Bull Nettle! I can't tell you how many times as a kid I got too close to Bull Nettle and regretted it! Some years there was tons of the stuff growing all over, all over, often getting five feet tall and as big around. Seriously, if you see a bright green weed with big hairy leaves and big, white, mallow-like flowers keep your distance!
