It was packed with summer tourists, families galore, dogs on leashes, was low tide so dogs love that particular smelly mud, all types of bikers. Was a nice day after church at St. Mary's to see my old haunting grounds, beach was super full of people, everyone looked like having great time. Air a bit chilly, 1 parent had taken a young child (wearing life preserver)for a kayak ride and had come in with the wind literally behind them...she probably thought Dad was doing on purpose bcuz she was disappointed to get out of boat. Take in the lighthouse tour,I didn't have time to revisit. Scituate harbor was nice to see filled with every shape & size sailboats, it's a great place to vacation. Fresh seafood, plenty of quaint shops, groceries in center, and they took the old movie theater moved it into one of the new condo buildings, looks exactly like the picturesque New England town it is. Highly...
Read moreWhen we were there, there were NO MOVED barriers or caution tape anywhere in sight. If removed as the reply says, the visitors took all signs and remnants of said barricades or caution tape. There were no signs on either side of the lighthouse and on the right the only way to get around was on the rocks and that not handy-cap accessible. If so, please share a photo. The left has a walkway but this is where the safety issues are for the visitors.
The location and views were nice. I did not find any public restrooms. There was a large boom lift parked on the sidewalk by the lighthouse leading to the jetty, boards with nails or screws on and beside the walkway… bad safety issue !!! Had to carry a family member around the lift and then bring the wheel chair past. I would think public safety would be number one at a public park???
Gave it a 3 star for view… 0 for...
Read moreWe drove out to the lighthouse around 7:45pm, which was so perfect because it wasn't too crowded. You can't go into the lighthouse since it's an active residence for the lightkeeper but there are some nice informative signs and plaques. There's a large jetty that many were walking along, we did the same. The rocks were very sturdy and it gives you another perspective of the lighthouse and the actual light shining. You can see beautiful homes across the way and since it was a clear night, you could see far down the shore. There were benches to sit on and the place was active with families and others enjoying...
