Barren River State Park Marina — Attraction in Scottsville

Just a very bad experience. Showed up for my rental pontoon on 7/12 to see the marina was flooded and obviously closed. I received no notification of this and drove from over an hour away with family for this rental. Finally got a hold of someone who told me the rental was out of Peninsula Marina, so had to drive another 20 minutes to get there. Got there at 8:30, and was shown the pontoon we rented. It had no business being in service, and should be a retired boat. All the gates onto the pontoon were broken. I had to use my coolers to block the gates as I had young kids with us. There were wires exposed and rust/dents all over the boat. I rented a similar pontoon for similar price from Wax Marina off Nolin River Lake last year, and got a very serviceable pontoon that I expected to get here. I asked the staff if they had a better pontoon I can upgrade to, and they said they did not (needless to say, I saw rentals docked there in the morning, when I made a stop at the marina around noon, and at the end of the day, so not sure why I couldn't upgrade). Also, about 3 minutes after I left the marina, the pontoon engine cut off. We had to plunge fuel from the tank to the engine throughout the day to keep the pontoon running. Really was unbelievable that they still rent this pontoon out. No chance I would ever...

We had a really great time camping here. We were here for from July 5 till July 22. The park is well kept, the comfort station was always clean. The only complant I had was the sites were rather small. We had a back in site, so I would recommend if your in a medium to large rv or trailer to get a pull through. However if the small sites have a deck, which was nice. We had dinner in the lodge. Twice and the food was really good. They have an ayce buffet some nights. The beach was clean and quite big compared to some lakes...

The people were friendly, but the boat was the most run down, ripped up, floating piece trash I’ve ever been on. For $275 for 7 hours I was expecting something halfway decent. You can get a really nice one for $550 Once you pay, you can’t get your money back. The young man that showed me the boat said that they’ve had them since 1970. It looked like it.
