Sunset Approach — Attraction in Seaside

Be sure to check the tides before you attempt to drive on the beach. We went down early in the morning to look for the dead beached whale. The tide was a bit high and the sand was a little soft so I turned around and left. Later on we learned the whale had floated North a ways, so we went to the Peter Irdale ship wreck beach access and the tide was not so high. This is NOT an off-roading area. It is a public approach to the community beach system of Oregon. Vehicles are allowed and must follow traffic rules.

Sunset Approach is a great place to access an amazing unspoiled beach. You can drive on the beach if you have a four-wheel-drive, SUV or truck. If you get stuck in the sand which many do, you can contact the Clatsop County Son’s Of Beaches 4x4 Motorsport Club via Facebook and they will help pull you out of the sand. Please don’t forget to tip them generously as no one else will come to save you. Don’t bother calling AAA or any local tow truck company....
