Indian River Lagoon Preserve State Park — Attraction in Sebastian

Overall this is an okay preserve. Important things to note, there are basically no trail markers nor signs nor any real way of telling where you are going. Luckily cell service is pretty good and you can use google maps. It’s a hard dirt/gravel path clearly good for biking. Most of the water is hidden behind trees and mangroves so don’t expect a great view unless you are walking a ways. Definitely a ton of birds, pretty butterflies, 1 snake. It’s about a mile from the parking to the fork, if you go right it’s about 2 miles top the top and back for the north loop. Couple spots to see the river clearly but nothing special. The southern loop is about 4 miles there and back Bc Honest Johns had the path blocked and you CANNOT get through. Keep that in mind as it’s quite a hike. Welcome to dog poop trail. - and i am not kidding. My husband and I recently discovered this hiking and biking area. Unfortunately, one thing really stood out—some pet owners don't pick up after their dogs. Just because they are not in their neighborhood doesn’t mean it’s okay to leave dog poop everywhere. It’s gross and ruins the experience for others.

The trail itself is dirt but cleared enough for an easy bike ride. There isn’t much tree coverage for shade, but you can step off the trail to find some. Really well managed exotic plant removal. I saw two really ridiculously good looking guys killing Brazilian pepper. I wish they had a bigger budget for equipment but they seem to make the most with what they have. Anyways, I hope Governor Desantis doesn't sell them down the river like he did with the decision on the toll roads. Total snake in the grass.
