Beautiful hike, although clouds rolled in as I was approaching the tower, and I never got to see Baker. Bummer, but the hike was beautiful nonetheless. I'll come back for another shot of the payoff views. The drive to the trail was relatively easy with 8 miles of gravel road rough as expected but accessible by any type of car. I arrived at 1pm on a beautiful Sunday and there was parking available. Bathrooms at the trailhead. Lots of sun exposure, which I prefer as you aren't tucked away in a forest for most of the hike like many in the PNW, so remember to wear sunscreen. There's no cell service and there are spots in the rock covered areas where you can't see a trail where I needed a map to find my way, so the downloaded map on AllTrails was a lifesaver for me. The trails are incredibly well maintained (thanks volunteers) but you do need to pay attention as there are side trails everywhere and while I wasn't paying attention, I took a wrong turn and thankfully AllTrails notified me . . . Unfortunately, I didn't notice the notification until about 15 min later. Beautiful even with the cloud cover, and I look forward to coming back on a sunny day to finally...
Read moreAn absolutely beautiful view and very scenic hike!! This was my first time hiking in the area. I went on a Monday of a Canadian long weekend, so traffic was quite minimal thankfully. You can tell this place is heavily trafficked during the weekend though, and it is mainly groomed and tracked out with man-made trails. This was not an overly strenuous hike, although WTA Trailblazers app (which is solid!) rated it as Hard. It has some steady incline in a few spots, but nothing over-bearing at all ( I am 30, active almost daily and somewhat used to this though). The pros, which would definitely outweigh the large number of people is that you have views for the entire hike almost, and some shade in trees....also dog friendly! Don't forget to use the lieu before departing....or pack out your own ;) . All-in-all great hike, gorgeous views, dog-friendly, medium hike. Push further into the cascades to...
Read moreThe fire lookout is located about 6km from the parking lot. The trail is pretty well maintained and not challenging, though it climbs about 600m and has some switchbacks that are probably the toughest part. The lookout has 360° views which are beautiful all around. On the way to the lookout or on the way back you can take a short detour to a couple of small lakes where you can take a swim and cool off from the hike. There's also camping available at the Bell Pass junction, but it's fairly limited. If you camp, you'll be treated to some spectacular night skies. Overall, an excellent day hike or...
