Been an avid Skagit Speedway attendee for over 30 years, but the new owners have some things to learn. The prices have increased across the board over last year, from tickets to food. We used to be able to take our family of 5 to SS with about $120 for food and tickets. This year we had to spend $200 and significantly scale back concessions.

Speaking of concessions.. a miserable failure here. Aside from the price hike, they removed many of the staples. They removed chili cheese fries and corn dogs. I mean seriously? And they removed the 'Sprinter Burger' which was a double bacon cheeseburger with grilled onions. Now they sell a single frozen patty and a slice of American cheese slapped between a Costco bun for the same price. Not to mention adding silly names to a bunch of things that you have to ask the concessions workers to explain. Whoever 'overhauled' the concession stand from price hikes to menu needs to realize that you don't need to justify your job by making needless changes to things that people liked.

And lastly, this may have been just the opening night and not indicative of later in the season but the operation was SLOW. Over four hours later and the first main hadn't even started! Being a Sunday, we had to call it a night at nearly 9pm and missed the 360 main because of how poorly everything was run. It shouldn't take FIVE HOURS to run 3 classes guys. Imagine if it had started at 7pm as usual? That's freaking midnight!

Anyways, very disappointed with our experience and everyone in the family was mostly sure they didn't want to go back any time soon and our bank accounts CERTAINLY can't afford it either. For $200+ we can find better ways to have 'family fun,' even if I'll miss the smell of racing fuel on a summer night, we just can't justify a lesser experience for more money with how expensive the world...

Super fun weekend activity... it's one of my favorite parts about the weekend now! Tickets are pretty reasonable ($14 on nights that aren't a special event- check their website), there are lots of seating options (grass for blankets/lawn chairs or wooden stands). I suggest bringing a blanket in case you get cold until at least the middle or end of June and then after that to sit on- those wooden bleachers make your butt hurt after a while! Food is good and reasonably priced as well. I suggest taking some eye protection as sometimes it gets super first and the dust will dry out your eyes (parents, bring ear pro for young kids as it gets loud). They have a "beer garden" where they sell a variety of beers, or you can go to the cart near the stands, where they sell Budweiser/Bud Light and Estrella bottles (tip: the glasses of beer from the beer garden are the same cost and volume as the Bud/Bud Light bottles, so I suggest buying the bottles so it's easier to keep the dirt out of your beer!). Get there early so you miss some of the lines. BRING CASH* as the ATM almost always seems to be out of money and the concessions and beer are cash only (you'll also avoid the ATM fees and get through the admission lines faster- their credit card machines...

Race Track was smaller then I thought it would be. Barley able to hear the announcements or announcer over the loud speakers due to people talking and the racer cars themselves, they need to invest in either bigger speakers or more of them. Very dusty, there was dirt in places of my body that weren't even exposed so I'm confused on how it did that. Kinda like a kid eating spaghetti and you notice the sauce some how ended up in the center of their back in a place you knew they couldn't reach...yeah like that. Other then that the bathrooms were clean. The eating areas were nice. The people were amazingly kind considering how people from Skagit County normally are. The place to grab food could of used a large fan in the lobby area where you go to order your food it was uncomfortably hot waiting in line but other then that overall a really good time. Great place to take the kids. Just remember to bring the proper wear and glasses preferably the protective gear to help keep the dirt from getting in your eyes. All in...
