I have begun to have some serious concerns regarding cyclist behavior on the paved sections of the Olympic Discovery Trail near Sequim. While I appreciate the trail's excellent maintenance and beautiful views, I have observed an increasing number of cyclists who do not provide adequate warning when approaching from behind.
As someone who walks the trail nearly every morning, I have frequently experienced cyclists passing at high speeds, often within a foot or two, without any prior notification, even when I walk as far to the right as possible. This is particularly troubling given that many trail users here are retired and some may be hard of hearing. This lack of consideration and irresponsible behavior creates dangerous situations that could potentially lead to serious accidents or even fatalities.
To significantly improve safety, I urge the Peninsula Trails Coalition to consider painting a dividing line down the middle of the more well-traveled and paved sections of the trail.
