🌊 Granny Kent Pond – Shapleigh’s Hidden Gem
Ever met a pond so charming it practically tips its hat to you? That’s Granny Kent. Spanning around 52 acres, it’s spring-fed, about 20 ft deep at its heart, with lots of character and none of that aggressive tourist energy .
🎣 “Fish Better, Relax Best”
Anglers, rejoice! Granny Kent is stocked with large‐mouth bass, chain pickerel, yellow and white perch, plus the occasional trophy lurking beneath the surface . And don’t worry—no invasive weeds chasing you off, the ecosystem's squeaky-clean .
🚣 Boats, But Not Bumper Boats
No public boat launch, keeping things delightfully private. But bring your canoe, kayak, jet ski, or paddleboard—plenty of options to dance across mirror-like waters .
🌅 The View? Chef’s Kiss.
Fringed with evergreen-and-maple silhouettes, it puts on sunsets worthy of a National Geographic cover. Imagine sipping your coffee while the pond glows orange—pure Monday-morning therapy .
🏡 Home Sweet Pond-Home
Shoreline hosts a mix of seasonal camps and year-round homes—cozy, neighborly, and no mega-developments to steal its soul . Pull up to the dock, greet a neighbor, and maybe borrow some sugar (or a fishing tip).
🌲 Adventure Access
Centered in nature, yet just about 2 hours from Boston and an hour from Portland. Bonus: hike the White Mountains or sip craft beer in Portland on your weekend getaway .

The sunsets were beautiful and we saw Loons and Eagles and heard Owls and lots of song birds. We kayaked on the pond and it was lovely with relatively calm water and little fish swimming under our boats. If you are lucky enough to get a place with a fire ring you can sit out at night and listen to the owls and loons calling. And head out in the morning to listen to all the song birds sing. I counted at least 15 species of birds on our trip...
