Borderland State Park is the premier place to hike,, take your dog for a long walk, plan a picnic, have a photoshoot near historic buildings, or to play frisbee golf in nearby Easton MA.
There are so many different trails with varying degrees of difficulty in terms of terrain, as well as catering to various activities such as hiking, mountain biking, joggers, or those looking for a leisurely stroll around the park.
I always take my dog here and we have a great time, most people with pets are friendly and most know to ask if they can pet your dog before actually doing so, although some people are oblivious that not all dogs get along and not all want to say hi to each other, lol, but that's not the park' fault.
The last time my dog and I went for a hike, we went 6 miles, quite a long walk, see, we took a wrong turn and ended up on the mountain bike/backpack hiking trail in which we had to traverse very difficult terrain deep in the woods with not many blue markers to let us know which way to go, we nearly got lost and I panicked just a bit until we found some mountain bikers on the trail (they were literally the only people we saw after walking the trail for about 25 minutes) who showed us the way back to the main trail leading to the exit of the park, thank goodness.
I would recommend better signage or more signs or flags to indicate the correct path that you're walking/hiking/biking and also put signs for no flexi-leashes which allow other peoples dogs to basically roam free to a certain extent, potentially harming other people' dogs that they bring, but overall, this is a fantastic park that is very inexpensive to enter and you could easily spend a few hours here and...
Read moreIt is truly a beautiful park. There are so many trails! The mosquitoes weren't exactly wonderful but for the view, it was worth it.
If it were just for the nature, this review would be five stars.
But unfortunately, we humans think we can control everything. Nature is not something that should be paid for, people. I was beyond dissapointed that we had to pay $5.00 for parking when all we wanted to do was walk at a park with our dog.
In the last 2+ years we have had our dog, we have gone to many parks in Mass and this was the first one that ever charged anything at all. It's kind of preposterous.
Sure, it's clean (shouldn't we all be keeping nature clean though FOR FREE?). Sure, there's a ranger there to help answer questions (apparently judging ones dog is part of their duties too). Sure, there's maps available. Sure, it's historic with a mansion to visit and different activity areas. Sure they hold little events near the Smith Farm.
But there should be a way for people to go there JUST to walk and enjoy nature FREELY.
Sadly, I won't be returning. My morals don't stand for a place that charges for parking AND gets money from annual parking passes AND accepts donations when all I really want to do is WALK and take in the view of NATURE.
Nature is just that. Nature. It is not "ours" to be charging money to use it. On top of that, it felt very strict. I refuse to be at a place that makes me uncomfortable to enjoy nature.
We will happily continue going to FREE parks. Thanks, but no thanks town of Easton. Huge...
Read moreThis is particularly a tough one to rate. While I love this place, how clean it is and bwautiful. There are a few things that made me doc off some stars. First paid parking, it's not a huge deal to me but I understand while other people are upset. Second, and most complaint, the installment of disc golf. When I go to a park I want a nice peaceful quiet stroll. I am an avid bird watcher and I can't tell you how many times I have left aggravated due to the noise and commotion you get from the disc golf players. They're loud, always yelling, swearing, and carrying boom box backpacks blaring crappy music. It's almost like the bro adventures. There's always a cumulation of trash around the golf areas. I know not everyone who plays are like this but unfortunately the loud ones over shadow them. I have had multiple times where I will be hunting a bird down and staying very still only for it to fly away because a bro will come running through chasing his frisbee screaming. I will not be going back as much as I use to. I want a park to be peaceful...
