My visit to the Shasta Dam Visitor Center and the dam tour was an incredible experience filled with history, stunning views, and a truly exceptional tour guide. The tour itself is a deep dive into the fascinating history of the Shasta Dam. Our guide, who was clearly passionate about her work, went above and beyond to share her extensive knowledge. She was not only informative but also made the history come alive with her engaging storytelling. It's clear she really knows her stuff, and her dedication to the topic made the tour both educational and incredibly enjoyable. The views from the dam are absolutely breathtaking. Seeing the massive scale of the structure and the surrounding landscape is something you have to experience in person. It's a testament to human ingenuity and a beautiful part of California's landscape. Overall, we had a fantastic and highly educational time. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in history, engineering, or simply looking for a memorable experience. My only minor wish is to do it again on a cooler day, as the heat was quite intense. But even with the heat, the tour was well worth it, and I'd do it again in...
Read moreHave to admit to a lot of disappointment. Our party of five got there at 10:40 for an 11 tour to find that only 6 people can go because their elevator is down. Only 6 are allowed because there is only room for 6 in their van. Very hokey. For the 11 tour there were already two, so we were told to arrive back at 12:10 to wait for the 1:00 tour. We walked over the dam and looked around and arrived back at 12:11 to find that a group of four had come in five minutes before us. The first come, first serve discrimantely applied to them even though we had been waiting since 10:40. We were turned away after all the waiting. Very poor service and apathetic employees. I would recommend staying away if you want to just...
Read moreA visit to the 2nd biggest dam in the US is a must with kids. Plan to arrive here 20 minutes before their guided tour of the dam (9AM, 11AM and 2PM). Watch an engrossing 20-minute documentary about the dam before heading out with your guide.
Our guide Linda was an Army veteran and was super friendly in taking us over the dam and explaining all the features. Both adults and kids alike were able to actually learn how a dam is constructed, operated and how the water is used to generate electricity here.
The visitor center also has clean toilets, indoor play area for kids and tons of parking outside.
NOTE: Plan to visit Mon-Fri, since they are...
