Mass Audubon's Lime Kiln Farm Wildlife Sanctuary — Attraction in Sheffield

We have visited Lime Kiln Farm several times. It is a quiet peaceful location. Choose your trail and enjoy the beautiful flowers - while watching the butterflies and bees flitting from one shrub to the next. The walk takes you to lovely meadows with benches along the way. Take advantage of the opportunity to stop for a bit and reflect on nature. After the meadows, the trail will take you to an area of varied specimens of trees. Listen for the birds as they call to each other. This is not a strenuous walk....

day24(16SEP24) sanctuary47: nicely marked and maintained loop trails thru fields and woodlands. view of fields and of mount everett to the west is eye-candy. unique calcareous soils engender unusual plant communities. TOR's Bartolomew's Cobble is nearby -if you've never been there, it is a must-see (especially in spring when wildflowers bloom). the abandoned kiln is a big concrete tower with wetland on one side and ledge outcropping...

Beautiful place entrance might be flooded by beaver activity in spring. The lime kiln ruins are in good condition and right up the hill are glorious views of the taconics! The short loop at the end is Woods walking. Bring bug...
