We drove south on Colton Road from US-6, and made a wrong turn on Owasse Road. This was a rough, rocky dirt road that dropped down into the gorge and followed the river. Lovely views, but not what we wanted. We returned to Colton road and continued south a couple of miles until we saw a gravel parking lot on the right. We parked and crossed the road to pick up the trail to the Barbour Rock overlook. We went out on the handicapped-accessible trail, which was wide and smooth-ish and beautiful. My dog found a great many interesting things to sniff. The overlook is small, but the view is beautiful. On the other side of the overlook we picked up the inaccessible trail - slightly shorter but narrow with less stable footing. As of 10/8/2024 there is still a tree blocking the path. Read moreI turned onto Colton Rd from Rt 6 according to Google maps but then made a left turn onto Owasse Rd. according to Google maps. Definitely not what I wanted. We ended up driving 2 miles back in on a narrow rough rocky road with no where to turn until we got to a sign that said Road closed. There was a pull off spot here and I was able to turn around. Thank goodness I didn't meet another vehicle because road is not wide enough for 2 cars. It was a beautiful area along the river and was able to see a blue heron and the Covered wagon on the other side of the river. We turned around went back to Colton Rd and made a left and went up the mountain. Saw the sign for Barbour Rock Trail but a little bit further there was a scenic overlook with binoculars. Beautiful view! The picture I posted is not the Barbour Rock trail overlook but the one further up...

And the trail hike to get to the overlook is stunningly beautiful as well. Take the easy 'blue' trail for a relaxing walk, or the somewhat more challenging 'yellow' trail for a bit more of a workout. Wonderful scenery any time of year, but some of the best fall color you'll ever see from early to...
