
Unless you're into pickleball this isn't much of a park anymore. Some powers that be within the Henrico park's and recreation department took it upon themselves to turn what was an increasingly rare west end greenspace resource and paved it over to create not one, not two but THREE pickleball courts with four individual courts each. They took away some frequently used sand volleyball courts to make room for the asphalt courts. What was once open green space is now blue fences and painted pavement. Was there a public inquiry before doing this? I used to walk the park several times a week and never saw anything posted. Maybe it will enjoy more use but so far I've only seen a handful of players on the courts. Once I did see four courts taken and some overflow activity on two other courts but were THREE paved fenced areas and 12 total courts really necessary? I don't think so. Taxpayer dollars spent at the whim of someone unchecked and lacking any sense of balance in community planning, landscape design or natural resource...
