The road going here definitely requires 4x4 and high clearance. It's easy for any car until Dead Horse Cave, but is super rough after that. Now, that being said, me and my buddy took a 2021 Chevy Equinox with 6.9 inches of ground clearance almost all the way. Just gotta be real careful, slow, and willing to have one of you get out and spot the driver a lot. Even then, we parked about 0.6 miles away and walked the last bit, which was honestly faster than driving haha.
The cave itself is very impressive. Short experience, and I wouldn't plan on spending a whole ton of time here. It's a single large teapot chamber accessed through the "spout" of the teapot. The entrance requires a little butt-scooting, but the climb back up isnt bad, as long as you have decent tread on your shoes. The spout is just a few yards eastward from the main large opening, it's a smaller hole. Don't mess with the ferns guys, they're like the only ferns at all in this area of Idaho so just let them be and don't trample them, we'd like...
Read moreFirst stop is dead horse cave. Has stairs and cement benches along the inside. We parked the vehicle at dead horse and walked to tea kettle cave. Much like what all the reviews say if you don't have 4 wheel or high clearance vehicle you might not make it. We saw big trucks taking the road slowly as we were walking. It was great weather got there around 3pm and there We ran into about 3 others parties while hanging out at the cave, little chilly once inside the cave. We had a headlamp, but your phone flashlight will be enough. If you want the epic #doitforthegram shot get there when the sun is at its highest point. The walk was easy just following the road no coverage so if you go during hotter temperatures, be careful. It was a cool experience. As someone who is not athletic, short and a clutz this more fairly easy to crawl down and...
Read moreReally bad road! Unfortunately we had to turn around on this adventure because of the road conditions, the road was right next to a river and it was very thin, our car would not make the drive without ending up in the river. I'm surprised the reviews did not mention the terrible road conditions. Maybe if you had a horse or a Quad or just hiked the whole way. You could possibly park on the main road and Hike a few hours to the cave. Unfortunately we did not make it. A lot of burnt garbage on the side of the road and what looked like people were illegally dumping their trash, so it would not be a pleasant hike if you were to go this route. I just thought I would leave this review to give people a heads up before planning a day trip out there to only turn around from undrivable...
