I have very mixed feelings about this park. The park itself is pretty; however, I have tons of issues with the signs to get to the park. If you are a tourist, good luck to you on finding this place. My GPS took me to the middle of a main road. My cell phone GPS took me to a very isolated dirt road. I got out on the main road and kept driving until I got to the campgrounds, which I found only because there was a sign saying; "You are leaving Boysen State Park". My brain is thinking, how could I be leaving if I haven't arrived. Long story short... My hope was to relaxed with the scenery and I ended up mega stressed. I have traveled a lot and this is the first time I encounter this situation. Very disappointed. Tourist would want to go to the main entrance, not campgrounds. Don't bother calling the Headquarters. They don't answer. Tried 3 times... No luck. Other parks in WY are way worth it than spending 1.5 to 2 hours...
Read moreThis lake is truly declining excessive discharge of sewage oilfield waste and extreme Farm fertilizer runoff. The water is completely unusable from Late July all the way through October. The health and the lake has declined rapidly in 5 years. Also Hudson discharge it's entire sewage plant this spring causing what I have seen as the worst cyanobacteria bloom in the lake for The Last 5 Years. If you have a dog completely unrecreable more than half the year. The state of Wyoming is truly ignoring the poison they are dumping into this Reservoir. I have to run multiple filters on my water in Thermopolis. It's getting bad and I can start to taste the oil field sulfide. They are not testing the water properly and they are not informing people this lake is becoming...
Read moreWe stayed one night at the Lower Wind River Campground. The location is beautiful, nestled between the walls of the canyon, with the river flowing by. There is a historical marker that tells about the original dam on the Wind River which was near the campground. You can still see remains of the dam. You do need to know that reservations are required May-September, and there is no phone reception at the camp. So either make reservations in advance, or be prepared to drive about 4 miles to the dam where there is some reception. There are two first-come-first-served sites at the camp - we were able to grab one of those. The campground is right next to the road - traffic overnight was not bad but started up early in...
